The best gluten-free pizza I ate on our recent Europe interrail trip was at Ciro & Sons in Florence! This family-run restaurant is AIC accredited, and has an entirely separate ‘senza glutine’ (gluten-free) kitchen, meaning the entire menu can be made gluten-free and safe for coeliacs.
The food
Ciro & Son’s is open 12pm-3pm for lunch and 6pm-10:30pm for dinner Monday to Saturday. We were really keen to try this place after seeing it’s AIC accreditation and so many great reviews from coeliacs, and we ended up eating here twice on our 3-day trip to Florence!
The entire menu can be made gluten-free and lactose-free, with the gluten-free orders being cooked in a completely separate kitchen. Both times I had the gluten-free Vesuvio, with buffalo mozzarella, truffle, cherry tomatoes, rocket and Tuscan ham (I just couldn’t get enough of this pizza!). The gluten-free pizza base was hands-down the best I’ve tried so far, and I honestly wouldn’t have known it was gluten-free. We also tried the sautéed mussels and the ‘king of Neapolitan street food’ antipasti, and for dessert, I tried the gluten-free tiramisu which was delicious.
Ciro & Sons also has a great wine collection, and we tried some local Chianti red wine. They also serve a good selection of beer, soft drinks and aperitifs.
The atmosphere
The staff team were super friendly and knowledgable, and I felt completely safe eating here. Everyone that served us knew about coeliac disease, and made it 100% clear when they brought out out food which was the gluten-free option. The dishes also came with a little ‘gluten-free’ sticker for added reassurance, and the atmosphere was really relaxed. If we lived in Florence, this would definitely become one of our regular spots to eat!
Reservation required?
We did make reservations at Ciro & Sons because we were so keen to try it and didn't want to miss out! It was really busy on both the Thursday and Saturday night we visited, but especially on the Saturday. So I would book ahead to avoid disappointment!

P.S. Don’t just take my word for it - always make sure to double-check when ordering to make sure it is safe for you!
